I don't like to drink bad whiskey. I never went through a Jack or J&B phase. I started my whiskey experience with good single malts. So, I tend to shy away from anything you can get for less than $20 and definitely don't care for anything you can buy on an airplane.
However, this bottle is featured in the book "101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die" so I obediently tried it.
So my simple review is this: "much better than I expected". This is a thin, smokey blend. There's not a lot of character, but what's there is decent. Sure, this has what I consider the main downfall of cheap whiskey: a bad aftertaste. But, it isn't that bad.
Frankly, here's a secondary review: if you find yourself on a plane with the standard choices and this is among them, I'd consider this a solid choice. I'd prefer this to Johnnie Black (or worse yet, Red) or Dewar's. Not a booming endorsement, I know.
